Additional Nursing Costs – Undergraduate Program

As a Nursing student, you will have additional costs for such things as exams, insurance, and equipment. Below are lists of incidentals for our programs (all costs are approximate).
Nursing Entrance Exam (HESI)
The HESI, an exam required for applying to the B.S.N. program, costs $68.50. Review and schedule the HESI exam at the MTSU Testing Center
Once accepted into Upper Divison Nursing, you will need:
Uniforms/Supplies
- Uniforms
Women’s tops – $23-$25
Women’s scrub pants – $22-$26
Men’s tops – $24-$26
Men’s scrub pants – $28-$31
Black shoes – $30+ your choice - Skills kits – $0
- Stethoscope (with a bell and a diaphragm) – $30 and up
Medical/Personal Health Requirements
Costs for incoming medical requirements will vary widely, depending on each student’s needs, insurance coverage, and other variants.
Below are the requirements with fees charged by Student Health Services:
Upon acceptance:
- Physical Exam – $25
- MMR titer (if needed) – $40
- Varicella titer (if needed) – $20
- Hepatitis B titer – $25
- Hepatitis B vaccination (if needed) – $55
- MMR vaccination (if needed) – $100
- Tdap vaccination (if needed) – $60
- Varicella vaccination (if needed) – $200
- Personal health insurance – varies
Other Expenses by Semester
Upon start of second semester in program:
- Seasonal flu shot – $15
- 2-step TB test – $50
- 10-panel drug screen – will vary
- Criminal background check – will vary
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support class – $40+ varies per location
- Malpractice insurance – $15
Graduation (Final semester)
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting – $ 36
- Optional individual photos – price varies on package chosen
- Optional nursing pin – $ 35 to $92
- NCLEX application fee – $200
- State Board License – $140
- Optional graduation stole – $50
*All are one-time costs except malpractice insurance and TB renewal which is per year.
